Week 7 MS Recap

GBR Middle School Match Recap

Granite Bay took on a solid Motherlode side this weekend and emerged victorious. With players missing or hurt from both the backs and forwards, we had a few players in new positions / roles. The team really came together to make this win possible, everyone stepped up and pitched in. Strong pod play from the forwards and precise kicking proved too much for Motherlode to handle. We have improved in our rucking & team play, which resulted in fewer turnovers.

Focus Points this week

  1. Continue to build on team play aspects. Work on off-loads and setting up teammates for great support runs.

  2. Technical skills. Passing & tackling need to improve as a team.

  3. Team Etiquette. Too much chatter on the sidelines & when events on the field are transpiring. GBR players are ambassadors of the sport and should conduct themselves accordingly.

Player Spotlight

Back of the week – Aidan B. won back of the week this week. Strong runs, great tackling, and off the ball plays made a huge impact on this game. Making the adjustment from forward to back (and vice versa) is not easy, but he has shown that it can be done and can be extremely beneficial.

Forward of the week –Trey C. won forward of the week this week. He’s defined himself as a strong ballcarrier, a defensive pillar, and is continuing to improve his technical skills. Two momentum changing tries are part of the reason he earned the spotlight this week.
